Nemrut

Mount Nemrut is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Turkey, located in Adıyaman province in Southeastern Turkey. Built in the 1st century BCE by King Antiochus I of Commagene, the site is famous for its monumental stone statues and royal tomb-sanctuary at the summit. The colossal heads of gods, eagles, and lions, along with terraces and inscriptions, reflect a unique blend of Hellenistic and Persian cultural influences. Nemrut offers insights into ancient religious practices and the political symbolism of monumental architecture, attracting visitors from around the world to witness its dramatic sunrise and sunset views. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
