Aphrodisias is an important archaeological site from the Ancient Greek and Roman periods. Located in the Karacasu district of Aydın, Turkey, the city is named after Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Afrodisias is famous for its school of sculpture and was one of the most significant centers for sculpture production in the ancient world. Inhabited since around 3000 BCE, it became a major cultural and religious center during the Roman Empire.
